Trump nominates E.J. Antoni as Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner

President Donald Trump stated Monday that he’ll nominate the economist E. J. Antoni as commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Antoni would change Erika McEntarfer, who Trump fired as BLS commissioner on Aug. 1, after accusing her of manipulating jobs report information.

McEntarfer was terminated hours after her company reported reported slower than anticipated nonfarm job payroll progress in July, and after sharply revising downward beforehand reported June and Could job beneficial properties.

Antoni is the chief economist on the conservative Heritage Basis and has been a longtime critic of the BLS.

“I’m happy to announce that I’m nominating Extremely Revered Economist, Dr. E.J. Antoni, as the following Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics,” Trump wrote in a Fact Social submit on Monday night.

“Our Financial system is booming, and E.J. will make sure that the Numbers launched are HONEST and ACCURATE,” Trump wrote. “I do know E.J. Antoni will do an unimaginable job on this new function. Congratulations E.J.!”

The Senate must verify Antoni’s nomination for him to take over BLS, which is a division of the Labor Division.

Antoni was a contributor to Undertaking 2025, the controversial conservative coverage blueprint designed to assist Trump and his officers obtain a raft of targets in his second time period within the White Home.

The Wall Road Journal reported Sunday that Trump administration officers had interviewed Antoni for the BLS submit, and that former White Home advisor Steve Bannon had advocated for him to be nominated.
