Town of Pasadena canceled swimming classes and different recreation packages at three of its parks on Saturday, citing considerations about potential immigration enforcement by federal brokers.

Lisa Derderian, a spokesperson for town, mentioned officers made the choice after seeing posts on social media that confirmed “what seems to be federal enforcement exercise” at Villa Parke, a metropolis park positioned a block north of the 210 Freeway.

Applications have been canceled “out of an abundance of warning” at Villa Parke, Robinson Park and Victory Park to keep away from “the potential escalation of battle that unannounced federal enforcement exercise causes,” town mentioned in a social media submit.

Officers with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Customs Border Safety businesses didn’t instantly reply to inquiries from The Occasions.

Town’s announcement comes simply days after federal brokers detained individuals at a bus cease at Orange Grove Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue, a number of blocks from Villa Parke. That operation drew an indignant response from U.S. Rep. Judy Chu, whose congressional district consists of Pasadena, and different politicians.

Chu mentioned one unidentified agent, in an incident caught on video, pointed a gun at a person looking for to take video of the agent’s license plate.

“The ICE agent jumped out of the automotive and pointed a gun as if he was going to shoot the younger man, only for taking pictures a video of that license plate,” she mentioned. “It’s outrageous.”
