Sly Stone, a funk-rock star who led the group Sly and the Household Stone, has died on the age of 82, his household assertion.

A press release mentioned he had suffered a “prolongued battle” with the lung illness COPD.

Stone, whose actual identify was Sylvester Stewart, grew up singing gospel together with his siblings, and went on to play the Woodstock music pageant in 1969.

On the way in which, Stone was a San Francisco radio DJ, earlier than he and his band hit the massive time with hits together with It is a Household Affair and If You Need Me to Keep.

Stone married mannequin and actress Kathy Silva (proper) on 5 June 1974. Their wedding ceremony was removed from intimate: tens of 1000’s of followers packed out the Madison Sq. In 2006, the artist hit the Grammys stage in Los Angeles. He’s remembered by his household as “a monumental determine, a groundbreaking innovator, and a real pioneer who redefined the panorama of pop, funk, and rock music”.
