Two law enforcement officials in East Sussex, England, are accused of utilizing extreme pressure in opposition to 93-year-old Donald Burgess, a wheelchair-bound amputee with dementia, after he threatened care residence workers with a small knife. Inside 83 seconds of coming into his room, Officers Stephen Smith and Rachel Comotto allegedly pepper-sprayed Burgess within the face, struck him with a baton, and tased him. Each have been charged with assault. Prosecutors argue the pressure was “unjustified and illegal,” whereas the officers declare their actions aligned with their coaching to disarm him shortly.
